Louise Shrigley is a mixed media artist working mainly with layers of rish texture and acrylics, often adding mediums such as ink, graphite, salt, sand, charcoal, spray paint and gold leaf. Her love for animals, nature, and surfaces that bear the traces of time are the inspiration for her work. The layering of the aging process has been a source of inspiration throughout her creative career. Although she paints with texture and distressed layers, she seeks to evoke a sense of calm and serenity in her final pieces. Born in Wales, Louise discovered the love for art at an early age. Growing up in a volatile household, she escaped by exploring different mediums in school and at home such as ceramics, lino printing, watercolor, and photography. Obtaining a degree in BA(hons) Graphic Art, she explored many different mediums during her course and found a love of typography, screen printing and photography. After a stint working as a graphic designer in London, Louise picked up the camera again and is a director of two companies with her husband – Red Tail Media and Shrigley Wedding Films. A mother of two teenage children who are highly creative themselves. Painting has become a far greater part of her life after losing her mum in February 2020.
