About The Artwork
This is an oil painting of the great lakes steamer Tashmoo. I got permission to paint from a b&w photo from the Library Of Congress. I've loved steamships my whole life and so decided to paint this image in color using research to get the colors correctly. This ship was owned by the White Star Line, the same company that owned the Titanic. The name Tashmoo is the name of a park the Steamer regularly visited on the Detroit River. The Tashmoo regularly docked at other locations on Lake Huron. It sank in shallow water after hitting a rock with no loss of life. It was the fastest Steamer of it's day.
