The second painting from the series of paintings inspired by the sinister, gloomy, decadent side of the opulent mountain and spa destination Bad Gastein in the Austrian Alps. During the summer 2020 the artist spent there a short holidays together with his partner. On their walks through the town they encountered eerie spots and corners, where architecture, history, nature and own imagination can collide in disturbing yet playful ways. IG:

Milan Loviška (*Bratislava) is an undisciplinary artist with focus on performance, painting, installation, video and new technologies. He studied contemporary dance and performance at Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague and at SNDO in Amsterdam. To balance art with science he obtained a master‘s degree in psychology at Charles University in Prague. Throughout his career he has been collaborating with numerous international artists as a performer, choreographer, and dramaturg, while creating own solo performances that has toured across Europe. Since 2011 he also makes works together with the stage and costume designer and performer Otto Krause. Between aesthetic opulence and reduction arise intense, uncanny, atmospheric works conceptually combining the aspects of popular culture and science, such as gender studies, psychology, parapsychology, pornography, biology, new electronic media, religion, film studies, superhero comics or philosophy. Milan Loviška expresses through acrylic painting what he considers visually appealing and that, what thrills and disturbs him in the best possible ways. His paintings often combine fantasy with figuration and depict eerie, unsettling narratives to provide strange yet familiar closeness and solace to the viewer. Some of them are self-referential relating to his performance practise. In the process he starts from a photographic reality, then alters colours and adds or subtracts elements, creating thus a multiverse of skewed faces, transgressive bodies and liminal spaces. Milan and Otto live in Vienna and present their work in galleries, venues, festivals and symposia in Europe and Asia. In 2018, they were awarded the prestigious H13 Lower Austria Prize for Performance, the only prize for performance art in Austria. IG:
