About The Artwork

I like to listen to music to find inspiration for my art, That Was Yesterday by Foreigner may not be everyone's choice of song but it got my creative juices flowing. I could imagine someone longing for a partner after their relationship has ended, I pictured a gorilla sat in a zoo missing his mate who has been moved to a new exhibition. The idea of a strong imposing figure thinking of his lost love immediately made me want to capture that feeling in a painting. This painting style lets me create a dark and troublesome background to reflect the mood that our gorilla is feeling. I read somewhere that in films when a car is shown driving from the left of the screen to the right it's seen as something positive and the character is moving forwards with their life. However, from right to left may be viewed as negative they are going backwards maybe even spiralling out of control. With this in mind I wanted the gorilla to move to the left, to the past...towards his memories of the one he loved. Maybe he's being foolish to hold on to the past but what else has he got to lose?

My artistic vision is to inspire a greater appreciation and respect for wildlife, I aim to create art that resonates with animal lovers, and highlights the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations. I use my art to portray the personality and behaviour of animals, and to invite the viewer to reflect on their own feelings towards them. I achieve this by experimenting with different artistic styles and techniques, choosing the most suitable one to communicate a particular message. Ultimately I hope to create a connection between humans and wildlife, while also expanding my own artistic abilities.
