The Amazing Adventures of... Painting

This is part of a series of works begun in mid 2016. I am trying to express a controlled and lyrical mark making in my painting that combines recognisable imagery with this abstraction alongside a subtle narrative. This particular work is inspired by the book by Michael Chambon called "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay". I am very tempted to call the painting "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Claytor"! Ha ha! I like the idea of making a painting that is influenced by another form of art such as a book. I hope that the viewers will appreciate some of the sense of survival that I got from the original book and that I have tried to communicate in the painting. The image has been created in a dynamic, almost automatic style of drawing, that halts every now and then to check itself, reflect and then produce a figurative reference to assist the narrative.
