About The Artwork

The Animals of Vatican City Opus 1, 2, 3, 4 These animals were painted after a trip to Vatican City. Vatican surprised me with its liberality and a tremendous plenitude of pagan symbols distinguished by a strong magical, bewitchery and sexual charge, which looks even more controversially comparing to the officially declared Roman Catholics doctrine, asceticism, the perception of sexuality as a sin and attempts to repress it. In Vatican, the entire context of the environment is overwhelmed by a mosaic of fragments of an extremely complex and homogeneous system of the past, the pieces of which accidentally emerge over and over again. Bright, contrasting colours, fragmentary (like pieces of a dream or recollection) scenes, a nostalgic mood mourning for the loss of a life-blasting civilisation comprise the main theme of this series.
