Pakal, one of the Mayans greatest rulers, expanded Palenque's power in the western part of the Maya states and initiated a building program at his capital that produced some of Maya civilization's finest art and architecture. See photo 4 for the Carved lid of the tomb of Kʼinich Janaab Pakal I in the Temple of the Inscriptions. This inspired me to create my painting "The Astronaut". I have been visiting Mexico 2 now and after Egypt, it is the place that has inspired me the most. Everything about the Mayans, the people living there now, their food and culture it's just so colourful and rich. I had been drawing faces like Pakal's for some time allready but this artwork must be my best inspired by the Mayan culture so far. How i work: I draw with pencils, markers, pastels and combine it with watercolour on thick paper, then this is scanned into my computer at a high resolution. With Photoshop, i paint in my very unique way with the mouse and trace the lines i had been drawing before. Eventually this becomes a digital artwork that get's printed on the highest quality canvas available. Then i paint on the work again, making it alive and giving the image depth and even more contrast and details and making it an original and unique kind of work this way. In this work i even worked with some glitters since space is the theme :) Total hours of work: around 100. Watch me talk about the work in this following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwuaxS6xcKw&ab_channel=DominicBrown -Comes with signed certificate of authenticity. -Including black frame -Shipped in customised crate with some drawings on it. Dominic Brown is a visual artist from Rijswijk, The Netherlands. The archaeological sites, drawings and symbols he discovers on his journeys to far away places form his primary source of inspiration. Much of his work draws on the 5000 year old murals and hieroglyphs he has visited while traveling through Egypt. His inspiration, however, is not only fueled by the Egyptian sights he has seen. Early in life, Dominic found himself inspired by the rich Turkish culture and Greek mythology. As he got older he also developed a fascination for the Mayan mysteries and Incan civilizations. He sees the eccentric masks from Africa as a way of communicating with the past. He believes that the emotion or message that an artist wanted to express many hundreds or thousands of years ago could not have been transferred more vividly than through a painting, drawing or a symbol. The lines and colors used by the artist elicit a certain emotion from the audience. With the use of his own lines and colors, Dominic, too, seeks to communicate with people throughout the world ." According to him, something that does not have a time or language barrier will never perish.
