About The Artwork
"The Cabinet of Venus" is a series denouncing a strange and ridiculous act of censorship of sculptures representing nude female bodies. The project was triggered by an article on the incident that took place in the Capitol Museum of Rome in preparation for a state visit that required "modesty". Venus Capitolina and other statues ended up covered and hidden in wooden boxes. The view of the room, transformed in an installation piece of boxes, provoked me. I drew and painted a number of small and large formats with Venus in the box, in different positions, shapes and colours. The process starts with coloured Caran d'Ache water pastels drawing and painting, followed by large brush and water interventions. Ink and acrylic painting and more brush strokes then enter the dialogue.
