Born in Havana in 1946, Aconcha is a multidisciplinary, self-taught Cuban artist. She grew up in a family of craftsmen-creators, of whom she was the only child. In 1965 Aconcha decided to leave her family and Cuba to set up home in France (Paris), to follow her own path. This marked the start of a long creative process in which she brought together fashion design, music, visual arts and poetry. This multi-artistic approach enabled her to transcend her cultural and spiritual heritage. Since the 90s, she lives in a sheepfold nestled deep in the mountains of the Verdon massif in the south of France. A retreat interspersed with numerous visits to Havana, with which she never cut ties. Painting, drawing and sculpture became her techniques of choice and the Orishas, inherited from her spiritual education and ancestors, her main subject.
