Featured in t'ART Magazine, Issue No.6 The Chase is the first in the series of paintings that flirt with realities experienced in the dream state. The painting is inspired by a disturbing dream, in which I am chasing a horse with no name. I have been recording elements of my dreams, and using them as references for paintings in order to reveal truths in my reality. The painting illustrates sentiments of frustration, amnesia, and time pressure, yet the high-key palette and relaxing horizon create a serene environment. This is both a stylistic choice and an effort to express that peace exists even during moments of fear.

My practice is informed by realistic figurative painting, but with each painting I delve more into the surreal and abstract. I am fascinated by hands and how they reveal our character. I love to incorporate hands into portraits or allow them to exist in compositions on their own. I am interested in the subtle nuances of colour that lie not only in hands but all extremities (ears, feet) — these are a reminder of the complexity of being human. In my practice I often emphasize the vibrant reds that sit underneath the flesh. My recent series of paintings is inspired by dreams. I portray myself in the midst of confusion and haste. I use a vibrant palette which implies a departure from material reality. I am extremely drawn to the combination of blue and orange, which appeals to me on an intuitive level.
