About The Artwork

Rendering of the poetry into English by Taraneh Djafroodī The Cypress of Kaashmar (Kashmir) The abundance of bare shadows you are with vigorous branches with hedgerows of wounds then don't sing so clamorously in the silence of the arid land in the gateways yonder if it does not come back let your fervent love go with the flight of the wind ᴥ ᴥ ᴥ Conspicuous, here I am not a passerby in the desert sand, I am in the horizon of a glimpse of yours I haven't lost you in the shadows of yours, in your enduring forbearance I am all the same desolate ᴥ ᴥ ᴥ still all have not come to an end unless the wind that blows not to kiss the myriad glimpses of yours the everlasting dangling memories on your departed foliage that will not return from yonder ᴥ ᴥ ᴥ Then, With you which exodus I did not sing In a brackish heart your lingering after a hue shatters my memory, my skin your being a remnant far afield forgets my eyes ᴥ ᴥ ᴥ Hey, the everlasting branches that allude to the sky and the horizon that yet again turn one's gaze from far away with a still torrid hedgerow to the intimate splintering ᴥ ᴥ ᴥ Then Don't forfend me all over again a transient vagrant, I am in the path of the traversed ones in the splinter of the shadows of the other silhouettes then the ever green ochre (oker) tree, where are you? Those voices, the inscription that they have become, scripted, still don't let me be after centuries of desolation ᴥ ᴥ ᴥ With all that flutter with that fragmented grace you silently sing the gates of oblivion with dangling memories on a desert path in the distant ruins on the road shadows, tiny and tall endlessly traverse your path ᴥ ᴥ ᴥ Shayan Afshar

As an artist, it is from within the dimness of the frames and the stare of the colors that I remember my enduring inner memories. In my paintings, I carry with myself all the departed collective things heard and seen in a lifetime. Unbounded as I am, I am still attached to the past. To be in the middle of a conflict amid a frame within another frame, is such a weight on my shoulders that I have to bring it to an end. With the expressions of colors and the dialectical interplay between control and spontaneity of forms, I have to be free. "It is because of being framed within another frame, and the burden of doubt in these fragmented splinters, that I have to enliven myself and to ascertain my individuality in my paintings, collages, and drawings. In my artistic effects, I paint what is endlessly repeated; without a beginning and end, in an eternal time, I denude myself. I paint to pose a question, to reach the essence of oneself, to set the "self" free from its "ego", to remain self-reliant in denudation, and to be not feverish with the vagaries of the world. Unbound from one's denudation, I must reflect upon myself with inert thoughts and dreams.
