The Dance, View from Clingman's Dome Painting

On a trip to Smoky Mountain National Park several years back, I made the short hike up to Clingman's Dome to see the highest point on the Appalachian Trail, which I hope to through-hike some day. There's a man-made lookout at the top....a spiraling walkway of concrete that ends at a circular platform with 365 degree views of the mountains. The landscape in every direction was stunning, but I couldn't help but focus in on this group of trees just below....to me they appeared a snapshot; it was though they had been whirling around in some coniferous dance, only to stop when my eyes landed on the scene. That's what I hoped to capture in this painting....the unparalleled beauty and magic of nature, especially trees.
