On a night of a full moon, I ventured outside to see the sky and stars in all their glory. I watched as bats swooped and dived catching moths and flies. When my eye caught sight of a larger insects fluttering around the Dark Knight Buddleia, hit by the moon light. As I stepped closer I could see it was a beautiful pair of Hawk Eyed Moths, an unusually large moth for the UK. They were feasting on the nectar, when a bat swooped past, one moth spread its wing revealing the bright eyes on its wings scaring the bat off. I captured this spectacular scene with this three dimensional textiles piece of art, within the eye of the bat.

I created this piece using a number of technique including fabric painting, embroidery, quilting, applique, sheer work and beading.

All my work is framed, signed and mounted where possible. Due to the three dimensional nature of my work, most are displayed in box frames. This allow the piece to be viewed at different angles making the most of the detailing and gives a professional finish. Each frame is custom made by framing professionals in the UK, giving the best possible finish for the individual piece of artwork. Pieces are framed with a 2mm Crystal Clear ' XT ' Plexiglass, which is the modern, clean & safe acrylic alternative to traditional glass glazing. It is crystal clear, shatterproof and conforms to the latest BSI safety standards. Each piece of framed artwork comes with a hanging kit.

This piece is framed in a black frame with a charcoal mount trimmed in white which really brings out the colours. For more photos of this piece and it in its frame please visit my website www.nsltextileart.co.uk

As a keen artist you will often find me wondering the British countryside, overseeing with a keen eye mother nature at her finest, snapping and sketching the characteristics of all kinds of creatures. From the smallest insect hiding in the warmth of the long grass to the vast landscapes that cover the horizon. I ask why look anywhere else when such beauty is to been seen? I use a wide range of techniques to create three dimensional textiles that capture aspects of nature that I have found beautiful. This beauty I find serves as a reminder of the importance of the natural world, and how we should endeavour to preserve it, this idea has particular importance in society today.
