About The Artwork

I live near an ancient woodland, which I walk in most days, and I love seeing how it changes across the seasons. I know the woodland very well and am struck by the differences between the managed areas and the parts that have been left to be wild. It is a beautiful and magical place teeming with life and there's comfort to be found in the quiet steadfastness of how long some of the trees have been standing. In response to this landscape I made a series of paintings called The English Jungle. 'The Darkened Path' is one of the larger pieces from the series and was made with acrylic and a palette knife on a deep-edge canvas. It depicts one of my favourite parts of the woodland and, when I reach it, I always feel like I am approaching the heart of the most ancient part of the woods. The painting is signed by me. The sides of the canvas are painted with a dark green paint also used in the painting itself and it is ready to hang (see additional photos). This piece is a medium-sized work that would complement most homes or workplaces. It is strong piece that can hold its own but also works well amongst other artworks.

I'm an artist working primarily in painting and drawing from my studio in rural Wiltshire, UK. I am fascinated by the relationship between language and images, and my current series, Sleep, is inspired by instances of sleep, insomnia, dreaming and nightmare in poems and other works of literature. In 2020, I completed a series of 48 small paintings inspired by T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets poems. Readings of the poems, set against the backdrop of my paintings, can be heard and seen on my YouTube channel. A book about the project will be published in 2021. My work is regularly exhibited in galleries and open exhibitions across the UK, and is included in private collections in the US, Australia, France and Britain.
