Aslıhan Kaplan Bayrak graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Fine Arts Department in 2007 and practiced printmaking at university. Besides solo and collective exhibitions in Turkey and abroad, she organizes and curates exhibitions and events for the Bahçe Art Initiative which pays special attention to projects sensitive to nature. She lives and works in Istanbul in her own painting and printmaking studio. Her artworks vary from oil paintings to prints to mixed media works. Aslıhan believes that the perception of presence is not independent of space. By composing places overlapping on one another, with reflections, curves and intersecting lines, she wants the viewer to question the soul of space and time. The sense of space in her works invites the viewer to reconsider our bonds with nature – in other words our sense of being – to the extent that it disturbs us.
