ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Art critics consider me as a postmodern artist. From the beginning, in 1982, I started combining realism with abstraction, mostly expressionistic abstraction. Another of my characteristics as postmodern is appropriation. In this piece, I was inspired by one of my favorites Kippenberger's paintings, and Baselitz too. I added a drawing of a beautiful girl, nearly hidden into de colors and dripped. The third element is the use of pop symbols, made of wood and hand-painted and glued. That is recent in my art. I enjoyed a lot the spontaneous way of brushing and playing with a soft harmony of colors. For some people, it could look unfinished, but I wanted that way. Finally, I added a mango, the fruit I use as a symbol of love and desire. Imagine it is like a tropical apple!
