About The Artwork
This particular piece was inspired by the Adoration du veau d’or (Poussin, National Gallery) and also the Picabia painting on the same theme at the Pompidou. In my version, the calf has disappeared - its presence merely implied by the adoration of the worshippers, but very real nonetheless. It shows the emptiness of the object and also dehumanisation brought by greed and the worship of material ends.
