About The Artwork

This is a painting in my new series of smaller pieces depicting close detail from some of Hieronymus Bosch’s most notable works but applying my own colours and art techniques. This detail is from The Garden of Earthly Delights, right inner wing: Hell. The naked woman with the dice on her head is identified as a prostitute by the candle and jug in her hand. The hare beside her has been turned into a hunter who has bagged a member of the damned. A devil holds a trictrac board – similar to a backgammon board – menacingly in the air. A man is leaning with his back against an overturned table, his right hand pierced by a dagger. A devil is standing over him and thrusting a sword into his body. The devil wears a shield slung over his shoulder; it bears the image of a skewered and severed hand balancing a dice on two fingers. This corresponds to the system of corporal punishment practised by the courts in the late Middle Ages. Perfect for adding a statement piece to living spaces that may create a talking point with visitors. Executed in excellent quality acrylic paints, painted on all sides, and finished with a glaze of gloss varnish to protect against sunlight and dust. It just needs a nail or wall fitting to sit flush against the wall. You will receive a signed certificate of authenticity. The painting is 16 x 12 inches in size and is on stretched canvas. All art is professionally packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. My works have been shipped worldwide. About me: I am a painter, mostly in oils although I have begun to switch between oils and acrylics. I love to paint, love colours, shapes’, and textures. I love the idea that a different story can be read into each of my paintings and each viewer may interpret a story different to another.

Corinne is a UK based artist having previously worked in the finance industry. While appreciating art most of her life, she began painting about four years ago and is largely self-taught. Corinne paints almost exclusively with oils and works in a Studio space at The Artworks, Halifax, West Yorkshire. She considers oils as the most vibrant and challenging of the mediums and the vibrancy of colours and textures are shown within her work. However, due to the 2020 Covid-19 virus and the UK lockdown Corinne was only able to access acrylic paints and has produced a number of different style paintings. Corinne is particularly inspired by the Netherlandish Art of the Sixteenth Century, notably the two masters Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the Elder. She is totally fascinated by their work. Bosch who embodies the phantasmagorical force of painting, while Bruegel through his true-to-life landscapes and frank depictions of peasants. She loves the idea that there is a story within their works and has been inspired to paint some of their works but applying her own style of painting. As an artist Corinne loves to present the viewer with themes and subjects that raise their own thoughts and views on what the subject matter is telling them. Corinne has now completed painting the Seven Deadly Sin series of drawings of Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Bruegel made these preparatory drawings in ink for subsequent engraving by Pieter van der Heyden. His drawings depict the essence of human nature by illustrating moralising imagery through a comic lens. Corinne’s aim is to bring these drawings to life by applying her painting style using vibrant colours and textures. Corinne is passionate about her work she produces and hopes that the viewer will love her work as much as she does when painting.
