The Lake 2012 24"x36" acrylic on canvas is part of my rotation series where I put paint on the canvas then spin it on a rotating platform that I made. This series of works were completed in 2014 and the rotation arm dismantled.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This striking artwork presents an explosive burst of color against a brooding black backdrop. The piece predominantly features an intense collision of magenta, blue, and white hues. These vibrant colors seem to erupt energetically from a central axis, creating dynamic splashes and streaks that radiate outward, lending a sense of powerful movement and chaos. The splashes of color clash and merge in the middle, forming a stark contrast against the dark, almost ominous background. The black canvas is not merely a flat void but carries subtle variations and textures, providing a profound sense of depth and space. It grounds the entire composition, making the neon-like colors even more vibrant and mesmerizing. What sets this artwork apart is the sense of tension captured in the interplay between the colors and the background. The fluidity of the paint strokes gives the impression of motion frozen in time, as if capturing the very process of creation. The meticulous technique involved in creating the lustrous, energetic strokes hints at an underlying meticulousness and control, despite the apparent chaos. Further examination reveals delicate arcs and swirls subtly etched within the composition, adding layers of complexity. These details enhance the overall impact, giving viewers new elements to discover upon each viewing. In essence, this artwork is a vivid portrayal of energy and contrast, masterfully balancing chaos with control, and darkness with light. It is a visual spectacle that commands attention, inviting viewers to explore the depths of its intricate and exuberant composition.

I have come to a realization about myself and my art. I am impatient and I have need for instant gratification. I get frustrated with time consuming traditional techniques and want to skip ahead to the end. These are the reasons that I am a series artist. I like to experiment with an idea or a technique until I am satisfied with the result. The inspiration for my work is in trying the new techniques. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art. My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames and using centrifugal force and gravity to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
