About The Artwork
This painting is on cement smoothed over burlap on canvas so there is unique texture similar to the side of a painted building. I started this work with a general idea of a figure seated in a throne ala Pope Innocent X (Velasquez, Bacon). I then found an old Playboy ad that had figures and faces that I thought would work well in the composition. The result is something that feels like a clash of eras and questions patriarchal thinking and antiquated roles of male and female.
