NEARBY THE HOUSE WHERE I SPENT MY CHILDHOOD IS A BUS STOP, BEHIND IT WAS A WALL PAINTED ADVERTISING FOR A PEN - THE MAJOR COLORS WHERE OXYDE GREEN, FLASHY RED,ORANGE AND A TOUCH OF WARM CADMIUM YELLOW THAT ALL CROSSED BY A BIG BLACK PEN. IT WAS A POWERFUL IMAGE THAT ATTRACTED ME SINCE A VERY YOUNG AGE AND IS ONE OF THE IMAGES WHO CERTAINLY CONTRIBUTED TO MY FURTHER PICTORIAL DEVELOPMENT AND AS WELL AS MY PALETTE...RECENTLY THE WALL WAS SLOPED AND FOR A SHORT TIME A FEW PARTS OF THE OLD PAINTING WERE VISIBLE..I THINK IT GAVE ME THE SAME FEELING AS DISCOVERING AN ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE...THE FINAL DESIGN IS BASED ON AN AERIAL VIEW OF THE WHARF SITE...

Belgium
I'm born in Ostend, Belgium (1953) and Spend my childhood between Ostend and Brussels, partly in theaters and opera houses which were my early inspiration themes. My first idea was to become a book illustrator, but after a few months at the art school it went different and I became a fervent etcher and enjoyed the endless experiments of this rich technique..mostly working in black and white..I discovered color much later... in the 80' - 90's i did a lot of monumental work and I became more familiar with color and techniques..worked as backdropper for photographers and advertising companies (before the digital age). In the start of century XXI i started a second life with a full artistic occupation. My painted work is an abstract view from different observations in my daily life as well as from science and fiction. Since a while i'm fascinated by ceramics of all times and i gladly alternate between painting and the arts of fire My ceramics are rather futuristic, archeologic discoveries and every piece is a one off.. I have work spread in many cities, countries and collections as well work acquired by the Belgian State and the graphic collection of the art museum from the city of Ostend. Lives and works in Ostend and La Palma.
