About The Artwork

The shadow of the which The painting represents the duality of the human soul through its attitude to hide or show that dark side that lives in every person. Often this dark side is seen as something evil to be avoided and buried deep within our psyche. However, most likely, it’s just ignorance that imposes an often-superficial judgement that traces us back to the witch hunt. The side of the woman is completed by the shadow (the dark side) that is cast on a door. This is the metaphor: we need to cross a threshold in the dark in order to contemplate and reconstruct an identity. We could discover that maybe the witch is neither horrible nor evil. She is beautiful, and she looks ahead already, with kindness…

The Minotaur wasn't that evil, in the end. The Ariadne's spool of thread from which my work unravels starts from the surrealistic and symbolist fascination with Bocklin and Dalì. While unwinding the thread Mondrian's abstract experience and Burri's are also picked up while the geniuses Leonardo and Michelangelo remain the center of the labyrinth.
