About The Artwork
This work was inspired by the ink drawings i made when i was very young. Its very clean like pop art but still painterly. This painting stands as a montage of many different elements flowing together. Sometimes I paint random things scattered on the canvas and just sort of "wing it" to connect them. There is a ominous face, a sprinkler, an artist pallet and other abstractions. It's very fun and lively and was inspired by Basquiat and delta blues.

Hi I'm Sam Grantham. I am an oil painter living with schizophrenia. IM 37 and I have been an artist all my life. I am very influenced by music most particularly rockabilly, delta, blues, Proto-punk, jazz, hip hop, and anything beatnik. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground, The Cramps, and De La Soul are some of my favorite artists. Music helps me improvise with the help of music. I never have a plan and don't sketch anything. I grab random photos from magazines and interpret them with my paint brush. I use lots of shapes and patterns to help the composition.
