About The Artwork

Painting: Mixed Media on Canvas. The size of the unstretched canvas is 170 x 250 cm. Due to the size, the painting is sent UNSTRETCHED, rolled in a tube. A professional framer will easily replace the canvas on a frame of 155 x 235 cm. Original paining Comes with a certificate This painting is inspired by the book ‘Furthermore’ by Tahareh Mafi. It has magnificent descriptions about the taste of flowers and the feeling of colors. The artist wrote the texts with leaf metal. The changing incidence of light during the day ensures that the texts stand out more or less. This changes the painting during the course of the day. Combining text and paintings is very inspiring to me. Writers basically do the same thing painters do: create an alternative universe without boundaries. Tahereh Mafi is a master of this. I will quote a small part of the text that inspired me to make this painting: “Alice took a tulip from her pocket and bit off its head. She felt the petals on her tongue: she tasted the velvet, the fiery red of the flower. Then she closed her eyes and licked her lips for a moment before biting the stem. Just not green, but fresher, more radiant. A song of that color sounded and she felt the sounds sing from within.” (From 'Furthermore' by Tahereh Mafi)

Have you ever considered how special it is that we can read? Text is nothing but a series of characters in a row, to which we have assigned meanings. We can experience a whole range of feelings and emotions just by looking at those signs. From an early age I have been fascinated by letters. When I look at letters, I see beautifully designed figures. What I find so fascinating is that we don’t or hardly don’t see those figures anymore, once we can read. You are immediately transported to the world behind the letters. Based on this fascination, I want to show how text and image intertwine in my head. How they enter into a symbiosis with each other. I do this by making paintings in which I interweaves image and text. I use gold leaf and silver leaf that reflect the light in a different way each time you walk by. This brings the painting to life and makes it look different every time you look at it.
