The painting is a pictorial representation of a stanza of the poem The Waste Land (1922), a creation by the American poet T. S. Eliot. The poem was written after the first world war and carries the disappointment of that generation. In my case, the poem was used as an allegory of the dark days that Brazil is living at this moment having to deal with two tragedies, the coronavirus pandemic and a fascist and incompetent government, which is destroying the country, hence desolate land, uncultivated land , infertile land, lost land, Brazil is currently a desolate land. On a constructivist structure, I assembled the text in an asymmetric diptych, whose left part contains the title and name of the poet, and the right part the verses of the second verse of the poem. Pictorially, it is a composition created with calligraphy and lettering, for which I used a brush, calligraphy pen, Conté pencil, charcoal, strip, parallel pen, permanent ink pens and Indian ink mixed with acrylic ink. There are classic letters in the history of calligraphy, even chaotic calligraphy and letterings created by me, in completely new graphic alphabets.
