"How does one become a butterfly?…
You must want to fly so much
that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar."

This portrait was inspired by a photo taken of my niece. To carry on with my theme of transformation and the butterfly, this painting suggests that the young girl is thinking of her own transformation and growth. I used acrylic paint for the background, silver leaf and silver paint for the branches. I used charcoal for the face and paper for the butterfly. I later on transformed the painting from winter to spring. For the theme of rebirth. I've painted on flower paper to evoke the idea of fractals. I also added dew drops on branches to add another dimension and evoke the idea of transformation as water transforms too. Finally I painted a water crystal as water transforms with our thoughts and words. This is the Love water crystal.

The borders are painted with beautiful burnt sienna like the colour of the shadows on the branches.

“The idea of transformation is most often symbolized by the butterfly which takes a completely different form, “trans-forms”, from one part of its life to the next”. I'm a French artist currently living in Muizenberg, Cape Town. I started L’Ecole d’Art in Chalon-sur-Saone when I was six years old. Since then, I have taken many art classes in England and in the US where I lived for nine years. When I arrived in South Africa in 2011, I started oil painting at the Studio with Carol Laws then carried on with acrylics with Anastasia Sarantinou at the Blue Planet Fine Art Studio in Muizenberg. I've exhibited some artworks at the Blue Planet Fine Art Studio. I have been painting at my own studio since 2018. My main themes are my love for nature, butterflies, people and music. I also enjoy doing collages and love mixed medium, textures, patterns as well as the gold leaf. I mostly work from my own photographs. My artwork evolves with what inspires me in my travels and in my life every day. I'm interested in the process of trans-formation of consciousness. My artworks aim to evoke transformation with the butterfly, transcendence and transmutation with the gold. To reflect on the cycle of life, the miracle of life, the sense of lightness and joy and our own divinity.
