The name of this painting is "The day when she learned to whistle". I was inspired by my childhood, one summer which we again spent in beautiful Italy. We were camping at Bibione and I practiced my whistling at an empty concrete bathroom. There were a nice echo and I really wanted to learn, because I saw how the local boys were good at it.

My painting is painted on the strong linen which I stretched on good wooden stretchers made by a carpenter I collaborate with. After stretching the canvas I add the primer and gesso. After those layers are dried I start to paint. I love to paint with luminous colors.

Visual Artist Katja Tukiainen is born Arctopolis (Pori) Finland year 1969. She lives and works in Helsinki. She studied in Helsinki and Venice and have been in the artist residencies in Japan, Italy, Hungary, Sweden and New York. Her works have been included in the international exhibitions and public collections since the end of the 90's. Katja describes her work: "In all of my paintings, drawings, installations and even in my rare sculptures I have the same need. My need is to lead the audience to the world where cute and minor creatures have an opinion and the power. When I am reading daily news I cannot always believe in goodness, but in the world of my art good wins bad 6-0. People say my works are provocative and they speak out, but still they are sensitive. It is more than ok to say that."
