About The Artwork

"When I see the towers fall, It cannot be denied that as a spectacle, It is a realisation of the mind I'm standing on a mountain top And letting out a scream It's the language of the earth, It is the language of the beasts." Lyrics from Shackleton - Blood on my hands. This piece was influenced by the calm yet thought provoking lyrics and atmosphere created in the song. The light colour palette was chosen for this piece reflecting the tower blocks seen from the artist's studio. Tom's practice is underpinned by contrasts of colour, texture and mark making. It questions the viewer's perspective, offering reference to both aerial and landscape compositions. His practice is constantly evolving and exploring the different qualities of both conventional media and found objects. Similarly, the inspiration for each work also varies, from street art, urban decay and abandoned buildings to abstract expressionists such as Willem de Kooning, Gillian Ayres and Joan Mitchell.
