Born and raised in Armentieres in the North of France, Chalavie (aka Charlotte Vanhaecke) is a multi genre artist based in Los Angeles who loves to experiment and challenge herself. Inspired by life, her works navigates through different styles and techniques. She showcases here her latest body of work. This new figurative Series ascended from Chalavie’s viewing of lost family photos from the 60s through the 90s during a trip to France. The simplicity and tranquility of the moments inspired the artist to simplify busy photos by experimenting with flat backgrounds and negative spaces thus developing a new approach that allows the viewers to focus on the character’S moment and prompting an experience of this Retro era that seems both timeless and “space-less”.
