About The Artwork

Thetis, often referred to as “silver-footed,” is a prominent figure in Greek mythology. She is a sea nymph, one of the fifty Nereids, and is particularly known for her role in the mythology of her son, Achilles. Thetis is celebrated for her beauty and her connection to the sea, and her epithets “silver-footed” and “sea-born” emphasize her divine nature and grace. Her story is woven throughout ancient Greek literature, most notably in Homer’s Iliad, where she is depicted as a caring and protective mother to Achilles, intervening with the gods on his behalf during the Trojan War.
