Those Are Not My Rules Painting

'Those Are Not My Rules' was made after a particular tax return I sent in was returned to me giving information on the many serious rules regarding the defacement of such documents. I had sketched a flower on it. Ok, it wasn't the greatest drawing but I realised then that it was not my rule but somebody else's. I see many rules I don't agree with or I was not consulted on when they were made and then quietly I either ignore them or at the very least affirm that it is not my rule or law. This use of cut out letters reflects just this. From a distance or in a certain light it's hard to make out what is being said or thought, but in the right light it becomes clear. There is no need for bright lights of flashing type, just the solid letters as if carved into a wall. It poses the viewer the question about how much we blindly accept and do so without questioning.
