Art Description
Painting: Fabric on Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric).
In my ongoing series Altered I explore the experience of adjusting, adapting and remaking. I use darning to bring different surfaces together, or to fill a hole or gap. The fabric is made whole again, and a unified surface is created. The pieces are dependent upon each other. If taken apart a hole remains, and the parts are the parts that fit together to make the piece whole again.
In Together yet Apart red and white striped fabric and black and white stripped fabric fill the cut void in the fabric. The stripped fabric is attached through darning, creating one surface and a unified plane. The two shapes touch and are together. However, their difference is also present creating tension between the two.
