About The Artwork

This is a very vivid oil painting on primed, hard panel. It speaks of opposing forces and in the center a transcendent expression is revealed. The background was laid in as a 'drag painting' in a style that Richter once employed . After this is dried I come back with brushwork forms and detail. This combination of styles creates a very dynamic composition. A painting of this type cannot be painted on canvas. I worked on this piece over a two month period and then sealed it. On a white or off-white wall the painting is stunning. All my paintings are finished with a simple, hardwood frame. Proper spot lighting is always recommended for display.

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona with three brothers. I contracted polio at age three and spent nine months in an iron lung. Had a miraculous healing and then during recovery spent hours and hours with paper and pencil provided by my mother. Studied under several artists in the Phoenix Valley including on site watercolor workshops, figure drawing and sculpture. In High School won several Gold Key awards and was a cast member for the T.V. series - Indispensables (series on youth in art). University of Arizona Fine Arts department and one semester at the Florence, Italy Academy of Art. After moving to California I built an art studio on our property in San Marcos. Studied on and off with Gifford Nicholaides in California, where we formed the Pastel Society. Married to Christina Wilson, three children and now seven grandchildren. Life is good!
