About The Artwork

This is a painting made in my studio on textured polypropylene using watercolor, alcohol ink, and acrylic paint. I start out with a 60" wide roll of textured polypropylene, and I roll it out onto my work table and cut off a section. I tape down the edges to keep it from rolling back up and then I get to work. This painting started with a quick watercolor underpainting in cadmium yellows, pthalo blues, teals, and bright magenta. On top of this of dripped alcohol inks in various bright colors, which have a way of pushing the watercolors aside as they penetrate into the surface of the polypropylene. I let this dry for a little while, occasionally pushing things around with a silicone wedge. As the underpainting was drying, I mixed up some acrylic pouring medium with black, white, and pearlescent high flow acrylic sort of gently swirled in. This was then poured on top on the watercolor and alcohol ink and pushed around with the silicone wedge. I let the acrylic dry a bit and then pushed it around some more, leaving the outline of previous formations. I created this painting on a 60" x 58" sheet of textured polypropylene. It is to be stretched on a gallery depth frame which will trim two inches from each side for final dimensions of 56 x 54". The image shown takes this into account and is representative of what the finished, stretched painting will look like. It will ship stretched over a frame like a stretched canvas painting. It will be shipped ready to hang.
