About The Artwork
Two Brave Souls, Cabarita - was a finalist at The Border Art Prize, 2018 at the Tweed Regional Gallery. This piece was created from watching two crazy surfers paddling out at Cabarita during a large swell, normally the waves would come in and break from the point but the swell was so large during a low-mid tide it was breaking before the headland allowing the surfers to ride left and right. There was this epic streak of white water pouring to the beach, off-shore wind, almost perfect stormy conditions and these two guys were paddling out through the pounding waves in the early morning, it gave me a great abstract viewpoint from the headland to create a unique composition and capture this event balancing tones of black and white, a battle of white water and swell. I love capturing narratives or moments like these, tracing back to my own surf experiences its a way of storytelling a time and place. This artwork is Acrylic on Canvas, float framed in Tasmanian oak, with D rings ready to hang. W63 x H 63.5 cm

Most of my work is driven by the need to capture the energy, movement and narrative in the landscapes being depicted and capturing that self-connection to land and sea. For me, there's always emotion or feeling that needs to be expressed. Working from, plein-air sketches and taking photographic imagery, I create unique artwork by capturing different compositions and narratives from nature, whether that's people, wind or waves, and this is done with more gestural strokes and mark making in the studio to create expressive and impressionist artwork.
