Tyre Shop, Varkala Painting

This is a picture of a dusty street in south India after the shops have closed. I was interested in trying to capture the way the light (and obviously the shadows) highlights some parts and dissolves others. I wanted to make an impression so to speak of a dusty street with just a hint of what is being depicted. I painted this in India using water based materials on paper then when i returned home i mounted it on board and continued with oil glazes once i had isolated the image with an acrylic medium. It was then varnished and waxed.
