“Ultra Violet” is made with acrylic on paper and is inspired by the eponymous film from 2006. Ultraviolet is color we humans are not able to see, but animals like bees, butterflies or birds are able to perceive it. My artwork is about something that is hidden, can’t be seen. In this case it is fertility, since one can does not see from the outside if someone is fertile or not. A woman can be attractive, but still infertile. In the film the main character “Violet” has to deal with termination of pregnancy and is being suggested that she is infertile afterwards. Violet – as can be seen by our eyes – stands for a strength, profundity, but also for loss and grief. The woman in the center of my painting combines all those aspects: she seems attractive, even tempting, but she is infertile, dealing with loss and grief – like we all do – but also resides strength, perseverance – all that lies within us and can not be visually detected. I myself have been told this year that it would be difficult or even impossible to conceive which put me down for a while although I never wanted children. My processing of these unexpected news led to the initial creation of the artwork.

Lena Snow is a fine artist based in Germany who currently has her studio in a small town on the edge of the Black Forest (near Baden-Baden) where she is working on her latest artworks while keeping in touch with nature. Lena is specialized in female portraiture and sensual art with her main medium being paper. She earned a Master's degree at the University of Mannheim and Karlsruhe. "I explore various aspects of femininity and female identity in my paintings. My inspiration are personal stories of women I encountered, but also female characters in mythology, film, and literature. They are a new, powerful, and emancipated approach of one’s identity and sexuality, and at the same time they stand for empowerment for all women. For a long time only men have painted women, neglecting their personal stories of ambivalence, trauma and multifaceted nature, but it is time that women change the narrative and capture their unique stories by contributing to a new, empowered expression of elevated femininity." Lena has exhibited internationally, and has been published in several art and lifestyle magazines around the world. The award-winning artist is also editor of the international art magazine Goddessarts Magazine.
