This dusky panoramic composition is rendered in two parts juxtaposing each other. Both of them are depictions of a city centre in Ghana. Under normal circumstances, city centres in Ghana are very busy with diverse human activities, just like any other city centre. The first part portrays exactly that. This is an artistic impression of life before the current global pandemic (COVID-19). Most of these human activities have negative impacts that pose a threat to the entire biosphere. Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: Depletion of natural resources, cause by human overconsumption Pollutions through emission of hazardous gases into the atmosphere and careless disposal of Solid and liquid waste into marine bodies (Adom, 2018), as well as excessive noise. Global climate change, just to mention a few. Human impact on the environment has become one of the main topics for many globally. One interesting thing I realized during the pandemic, when most of the human activities came to a halt, was a clean and serene environment. This is precisely what the second part of this painting depicts. I will like to take this opportunity to propose that, the world should set aside at least three months annually as a break period often referred to as closed seasons to help conserve nature’s resources. Our planet can refresh itself during this break period. This is how we can save our planet.

Artist Statement My artistic style has continuously evolved, revealing our relationship with one another, and the entire biosphere which we inhabit. The quality and the contextual depth of my creations continue to inspire individuals in diverse societies and generations. I express my artistic ideas in abstract, realism, and surrealism. As an artist, who is passionate about colors, I work with diverse media such as oil paint, acrylic paint, oil and chalk pastels, color pencils, and charcoal with a cotton canvas as my preferred working surface. I also use found objects such as plastics, newspapers, et cetera in the form of recycled art to address environmental and sustainability issues. My works bear traces of Ghanaian cultural elements and elements from other cultures around the globe to advocate for intercultural unity. I believe everything on earth is interconnected, and humans are part of that equation. An innovative merger of cultures makes my works transcultural and transnational. Although my creative expressions, as well as my philosophy were influenced by Ghanaian traditional and modernist art, my themes reflect contemporary socio-cultural issues concerning the entire global community. I believe that the audience should not be distanced from the work but must rather be part of it, and one can experience that emotional immersion when looking at my works. Despite my knowledge of painting and other art genres, I have been attracted to the idea of repurposing discarded plastics and other obsolete solid materials into innovative artistic installations. This elevation of discarded used, and obsolete solid items accumulated in the natural environment can greatly contribute to the mitigation of their negative impacts on various compartments of the ecosystem. It also portrays interconnectedness of all earth’s diversity and the environment we inhabit.
