About The Artwork

This abstract work is an exploration of my subconscious, exploring the relationship between chaos and calm, and the complexity of interconnection. It invites the viewer to explore it in their own way and to discover their own meanings. What emotions do you feel? What meaning does it bring to the forefront of your mind. I'd love to hear from you about this. Please note that this work is signed in the corner, allowing framing or mounting as either horizontal or vertical at your preference. I chose a textured watercolor paper as the basis for this piece to offer an overall cohesion as I began to spontaneously make marks and apply paint. I also scratch into the paint while is is wet, giving a rich and slightly 3 dimensional surface. This piece is a many layered mixed media work. Only light fast materials were used in its creation. As a work on paper it may be framed under glass, or, if you prefer, it may be adhered to a rigid surface by your framer and framed without glass. I recommend the wet method. If this is your preference, please let me know and I will apply varnish to protect the surface.

Hello. I'm a mixed media abstract expressionist painter, born in Wisconsin and currently located in Central Tennessee, USA. Thank you for your interest! I hope you enjoy my portfolio. Art is a sanctuary for me. I grew up in a house of unexpected, explosive anger. Memories of that time are woven through with confusion, chaos, and fear. Yet I was always left to be myself when I created, free from the pressure of perpetually monitoring the mood of the house and the pressure to be somehow other than I was. When I created I was never too much, always enough. I grew up and left that house, but art has remained an essential practice for balance and clarity. In my work I bring understanding to these early experiences by freely exploring light and darkness, layers of meaning, tensions of interconnection, mystery and ambiguity. Liminal spaces such as dusk and dawn, the edges of forest and field, land and sea seem to me to be metaphors for my own inner depths. These are things that are not wholly one thing or the other but a combination where divisions blur and become fluid. I invite you, the viewer, to come closer, to look deeper, to consider what lies below the surface and see what you see, what you feel, what meaning arises for you.
