Vico’s work in terms of abstraction is surprising. Its force lies in the rhizomatous. Vico loathes the void. That unstoppable desire to cover the canvas surface, more than a mere “ornamentation” is the intensification of a language that chases him, which he attempts to decode, which he attempts to decipher. Evidently anchored in abstract expressionism and somehow close to the work of Jasper Johns in the chromatic handling, Vico is undoubtedly indebted with Joan Mitchell and Lee Kasner. It is surprising how this young generation of visual creators drives away from its origins (I don’t know if for good or for evil). At least, from a “geometric” and foreseeable abstraction. Their painting exerts a sort of magnetism that leads you to a state of pure contemplation.
