ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I started using the kindle recently, although it is convenient and has great features, I just couldn't help myself thinking that it really cant beat a physical, tangible book. I think inanimate objects like books can create a memory for the reader. For example I took a physical book to Japan and whenever I look at that book and feel it, it reminds me of the good times in Japan. These thoughts created in my mind the following title: 'Reading from a Kindle is like drinking a good wine from a plastic cup'. With this title, I then created this painting. I wanted the visual representations that a book creates for me, so i used the anatomy of the eye as well as the touch and feel of the hands. I also used the grape vines and the grapes to highlight the good wine found in the title. I really enjoyed creating this painting. All my paintings are created in my studio and are signed on the reverse by myself. All my work can be found on my Instagram account, which is:

Growing up in the British Northern County of Lancashire, my creativity was recognized and encouraged from a very early age. Subsequently, I attended the Cumbria Institute of Art and Design. I continued developing a passion for fine art, and my initial training were in drawing, painting, and sketching. As an aspiring artist living in a deprived area of Lancashire, my passion for art was often shunned and not encouraged. Amidst criticism, I held onto my passion and continued to create art from a deep, personal place. For many years, my work went unrecognized, but my resilience and determination kept me moving forward. Despite the challenges, I remained committed to my artistic vision and journey. I spent a lot of time looking at the works of Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon as well as impressionist painters such as Monet and Pollock. Within this period, which mainly consisted of self-learning, I looked and studied intensely the form, both within the human figure and the form contained within inanimate objects. Being of Indian origin, artists such as Bhupen Khakkar, Gaitonde, and Raza have influenced my work to some degree. I have taken on the cultural and traditional practices from a variety of art forms and acquired them through my own stages of art development. Over the last two decades, I have worked on developing more of a signature style using very expressive strokes, and my inclination now is towards abstract form of line, colour, and shape. I am searching for intensity, colour, and energy within my work.
