Vipralabdhā (विप्रलब्धा) refers to “one deceived by her lover” and represents a type of mistress (nāyikā), according to the Nāṭyaśāstra chapter 24. Vipralabdhā (विप्रलब्धा) refers to a “[heroine] jilted by the lover” and represents one of the “eight heroines” (aṣṭanāyikā) in a dramatic representation, according to the Nāṭyaśāstra chapter 24 and the Abhinaya-sāra-saṃputa chapter 2.—The aṣṭanāyikās (eight heroines) who are separately described in eight ways according to their different emotional states or moods towards the hero. Chapter 24 of the Nāṭyaśāstra and chapter II of Abhinaya-sara-samputa speak of these aṣṭanāyikās [viz., Vipralabdhā] in detail. About my art: 30x24” Oil on canvas Light airy background to represent the morning after a long dark night of waiting anxiously this maiden, for her lover who stood her up and never showed up! White representing her pure innocent aura. Red representing her passion and emotional state. The tree has turned from Green to Red witnessing and picking up her stress and anxiety that this maiden went through at night. Even though it’s a bright clear day, pangs of sadness and rejection fill the space. She throws away all her jewelry and gifts it to a bird nearby. Vowing never to be duped again in this manner. Birds have long been associated in Hinduism with sensuous longing and attachment. The large Blue bird represents her desire to be with her lover. I decided to leave her faceless. When your subject doesn't have a face, the viewer focuses their attention on other elements in the work in search of context clues. These clues can help your audience better understand the scene and story. Facelessness, interpreted in the most basic way, suggests anonymity or lack of identity. This was consciously done since so many can relate and identify with Vipralabdha’s the state of mind. 1st in my series of Ashta Naika’s More to come.

Manisha Sharma is an Indo-American full-time artist, poet, author, and spiritual thinker with ethnic roots from India. Being born in India the abode of spirituality, and immigrating to the United States she feels blessed to have experienced the best of both worlds, and is enjoying her journey as an artist and a humanitarian. Manisha firmly believes "everyone of us has the potential to be creative and to harness and express our innate wisdom and creativity.” Her inspiration comes from the beauty of living and says we live in a "Creative Universe" that itself is a work of art, filled with masterpieces of rivers, stars, mountains, children, clouds, flowers, animals, people, technology and simply life. Manisha leaves the interpretations of her works for the viewer to decide, and invites her audience to do some soul searching when viewing her art. She defines herself as an integral part of the wider global culture of conscious creativity. She reminds everyone to watch carefully what we allow into our minds and bodies, to be aware of the importance of healthy food production, cooking, eating and spiritual practices, being aware of how our daily actions (and “diets” of foods and ideas) influence our thoughts and transform our consciousness. Manisha encourages everyone to break free of toxic influences and take charge consciously. To develop our own creative potential and live in tune with the wisdom of nature. She creates her art with the use of acrylics, oils, charcoals, inks, pastels, organic paints, and digital mediums. She describes her works as a blend of Spirituality and Conscious Art. Manisha loves using vibrant colors in her compositions and says it energizes her soul. She firmly believes that colors can evoke passionate feelings and emotions and can be used as tools in unblocking one's own kundalini energy otherwise suppressed or blocked unconsciously in the various chakras. "Colors in nature or art are therapeutic and can be used as healing therapy to revive and rejuvenate the soul." Manisha is never afraid to try new color combinations in her compositions, and allows the process itself to guide her in her works. Her abstract art is more intuitive and she likes to explore different styles of art rather than restrict her creativity to one style.
