Virgin Mary Painting

Devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe occupies a central place in the cultural and religious history of Mexico. This Marian figure has played a fundamental role in the evangelization process, becoming a symbol rooted in national identity and as a participant in crucial moments in Mexican history. The Virgin of Guadalupe is a central figure in the Catholic faith of Mexico and Latin America. In this series of paintings that I am making, I cover aspects of symbolism, devotion, personal vindication, artistic technique, and the history and culture of Mexico. This painting is part of the series of works that I will be painting about religious iconography. My mother was devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe and Pope John Paul II. Capturing, recreating and reinterpreting all those beliefs are part of my search and language as a painter.
