Art Description

Painting: Oil, Acrylic, Spray Paint, Ink, Digital on Canvas.

Acrylic, acrylic based medium, archival varnish UV protection, oil, and pigmented Ultrachrome inkjet prints (collage) on canvas. The piece (2 parts) comes ready to hang.

The artwork is about painting: A catalogue of brushstrokes, dips, daubs, sumptuous grounds and marks, juxtaposing different elements and allowing fruitful dialogues between structure and disciplined improvisation that incorporates both additive and subtractive techniques. Segments of inkjet prints have been sanded and cut back to reveal glimpses of paint creeping out from underlying layers. The presence of color as a physical substance, takes on sculptural qualities through the complex process of layering, brushing und molding the paint as a building material. Existing in an undefined zone between painting and printing, the canvas subtly calls into question the stability of these categories, using readymade structures but giving them their own spin.
