We all know the tragic story of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. A recent visit to Verona (and Juliet's balcony) brought many paintings to my mind. This is one of them, painted in commemoration of the Bard's death, 23rd April, 1616. 400 years have passed, but he is still very much alive with his words. The passage, on ancient parchment, transferred (not stuck) to the canvas is taken from Arthur Brooke's original text: The Tragicall History of Romeus and Juliet (1562), considered to be William Shakespeare's chief source for his play Romeo and Juliet..

I have recently moved back to the UK after living in Italy for almost all my adult life. The Mediterranean lifestyle features greatly in my work and I hope it continues to do so. Check out my latest slideshow on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XKGOFS3ao0&feature=youtu.be Rosalind Roberts is a full-time English artist, living and working in Milan, Italy. My art is all about people and how they relate to their environment. In the sunshine or in the shade. Even when no figure can be seen in a painting, the human being with all his/her moods and eccentricities, fragility and strength, is still very present. Where would we be without other people? Interacting with others is a necessity and I find myself drawn to depicting this interaction. Being an artist for me means being on a never-ending learning curve. You can never put the brush down and say, “Right, I’ve mastered it”. You have to continually strive to improve and refine your technique. Sometimes it can be very frustrating and then one day, click, you’ve moved along the curve a little bit more and the sun is shining down on you. Thanks to Saatchiart and the Internet, I now have collectors all over the world, some of whom I am in contact with on a regular basis. It gives me enormous pleasure to think of my creations hanging on walls all over the world and to thank my collectors, I always enclose a surprise gift in their package.
