This painting was inspired by Claude Monet's garden in Giverny, I wanted to create an illusion of looking through a pond of water lilies to see the koi fish. The colors are more intense at night time when looking through the layers. The first and third layer is made up of water lilies while the middle layer is painted with colorful koi. The transparent layers are only attached at the top so the layers are free to move with the help of a small fan.

I am an American visual artist living and working in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Westport,MA . I received a BA in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1987. After suffering a concussion about 4 years ago, I began seeing in multiple images in the hospital, while laying in bed I was drawing and sketching my doctor, nurses and anybody else who came into my room. One image on top on another, on the same page. When I finally got home and feeling better I started to experiment with layers of glass, then plexiglas and finally arriving with my transparent fabric to try to replicate what I had experience in the hospital. Working in multiple layers of transparent organdy, and using ink and brush, I create an illusion of moments of time suspended, compositions the hover between figurative and abstraction; ghost-like images that are drawn in air. Limps and faces come into sharp focus while others disappear into the background. A sense of mystery creeps in.
