ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Abstraction of water each memory is incomplete. However van Broekhoven tries to keep the memories of certain places, journeys, holidays and strolls vivid through painting. You could call it landscapes, but for the painter it’s not a requirement that the final result refers to a specific or recognisable landscape. Her paintings are paintworks, struggles on canvas, experiments in paint that are approved by the artist. Nature as a theme is only a handheld that still seems needed. The paintings “grow” slowly in her atelier. The canvasses are flat on the floor, so that she is able to work wet-in-wet, and with strongly diluted paint. Big puddles of acrylic paint are poured out over oil painted parts, parts are being wiped of and other parts are being given extra attention by new layers of paint. During this experimenting with materials memories come above, but the actual action in the atelier is always stronger at that moment ! Colour, composition and light are of great importance for van Broekhoven. There must always be light in the work...as if the transparancy of the paint is still passing light...as if the sun is somewhere hiding in the painting!–

About the work of Danielle van Broekhoven welcome at the account of Danielle. A intuitive, expressive and brave painter ;-) She makes large scale painting that are colorful, full of structures and chemical processes. That burst with energy and expres a great love for nature, a botanical world, art from other painters and the action of painting itself. The strength of her works is based on the interaction between herself and the painting in the making. While experimenting with paint and other materials, memories come to mind, but the action in the studio, the dialogue between her and the works created at that moment, is always leading. Painting in this phase is very intuitive, active and physical. During the painting in layers, the canvas is alternately laid down and placed upright. Large pools of acrylic paint are poured over oil paint. Parts are (again) polished away, other parts are highlighted and extra emphasized by a new layer of paint. In the striking, powerful gestures with which she applies the paint, there is a certain audacity in handwriting and brushstrokes, a determination in choosing and treating her materials. Without being fully aware of it, she brings those characteristics together in paintings that ultimately always "burst with energy and at the same time bring harmony."
