About The Artwork
This oil painting was executed after a holiday in Snowdonia, Wales. It was interesting to study the methods of other artists, such as the John Piper to describe landscape as a subject, in a way that seems to combine elements of expressionism and surrealism. I am fascinated by the use of colour to heighten emotion and evoke a mood. It was liberating to loosen observational drawing to record a generalised impression of a mountain.
