Depression can all too often feel like an immense weight dragging you down, like a soaked cloak you can escape from, pulling you under the surface. But no matter how drenched and heavy your cloak gets, I promise you are loved and don’t have to carry that weight entirely on your own.

"Spring Break Jake’s work is on a mission to discuss the reality of our collective mental health, shining a light on the all-too-often unseen and unspoken parts of our psyches that, if revealed, could build a genuine sense of solidarity and empathy for others. He puts a special focus on challenging our notions of patriarchal masculinity and reducing stigmas around vulnerability and emotionality. The multi-layered messaging of his paintings is reflected in the many layers of material in each finished work, from the adherence of found materials onto the panel for depth to the numerous coats of mainly acrylic paints that take on an almost sculptural effect. New and recurring themes come straight from Jake’s own lived experiences with depression and anxiety as well as the many ideas and subjects he discusses in therapy regularly."
