Whaler's Cove Drifting Painting

'Sous Marine' is a term I have come up with to describe my underwater painting technique using scuba gear. I was inspired by an underwater artist in the Maldives and wanted to see if I could paint underwater in my local Monterey/Carmel kelp beds. This is a painting of my dive buddy drifting quietly back from a dive in the Whaler's Cove area kelp beds in Point Lobos State National Reserve in Carmel, California. I am very pleased that the immediacy and otherworldly aspects transfer to the canvas that I experience underwater.
